About This Journey

This story is based on Hamis’ own experiences and words.

The language has been lightly refined for clarity while preserving the original meaning and message.

The goal is to share a real example of how learning can lead to opportunity, and how small steps can create meaningful change.

Small Steps Can Create Change

Everyone begins somewhere.

Some people start with skills.

Some start with opportunities.

Some start with curiosity.

Hamis started with questions.

He wanted to learn more about computers and how skills could help create opportunities.

At first, many things felt unfamiliar.

Using a keyboard felt slow.

Finding files felt confusing.

Learning new ideas sometimes felt difficult.

But Hamis decided to continue trying.

Note

Progress does not happen in one day.

Progress happens through consistent effort.

Learning and Practice

Hamis is beginning to learn simple things:

  • Typing
  • Opening files
  • Understanding folders
  • Reading flyers
  • Sharing information
  • Observing community needs

Many activities still feel new.

Some things feel easy.

Some things feel difficult.

Using a keyboard can feel slow.

Finding files can feel confusing.

Learning new ideas sometimes takes time.

But Hamis continues practicing.

Each day of practice becomes another small step forward.

Exploring New Tools

As Hamis continued practicing, his curiosity started growing.

He wanted to see what computers could do and how different tools worked.

I showed him simple examples such as how to open programs and use basic features.

The ideas themselves came from Hamis.

On his own initiative, he started exploring different tools:

  • Using Word to write his own story
  • Using Excel to keep records of egg collection and sales
  • Using PowerPoint to create slides showing family pictures and descriptions

This was both surprising and encouraging.

These were not school assignments or activities I asked him to complete.

They were ideas that came from Hamis himself.

My role was to guide, encourage, and supervise while giving him space to explore and learn through his own curiosity.

Through these small activities, Hamis is beginning to discover that computers are not only tools for learning.

They can also help people organize information, tell stories, and share ideas.

Seeing Possibilities

As Hamis continues learning, he is beginning to notice something.

Learning is not only about understanding computers.

Learning can also change how people think, observe, and understand the world around them.

Simple activities slowly become opportunities to ask questions, recognize ideas, and discover new possibilities.

Sometimes Hamis thinks:

“Maybe I can learn more.”

“Maybe I can do more.”

“Maybe I can help others too.”

Hamis is still at the beginning of his journey.

Every lesson, every question, and every activity creates another opportunity to learn something new.

Learning is slowly becoming more than understanding how to use a computer.

Through practice and curiosity, Hamis is beginning to discover that learning can help people express ideas, organize information, and explore new possibilities.

Lessons from Hamis

So far, Hamis is learning that:

✓ Learning takes time

✓ Practice builds confidence

✓ Questions create opportunities to learn

✓ Curiosity helps us discover new things

✓ Small steps matter

✓ Growth happens gradually

Reflection

Think about these questions:

  1. What do you notice about Hamis’ journey so far?

  2. What challenges is Hamis experiencing as he learns new things?

  3. What can you learn from his experience?

  4. What small step can you take today?

  5. Is there something new you would like to learn?

Tip

Every journey starts differently.

You do not need to know everything before you begin.

You only need curiosity, willingness, and consistency to continue learning.

“Your journey does not begin when you know everything. It begins when you start.”
